Either change it manually or save the following as fixaudio.reg and import it, then reboot. My HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\ConsoleSecurity was set to a 'zero-length binary value', but it should be the value shown in the reg file below. I have 4 monitors plugged in which have speakers, but I made sure that the output device is set to realtek. On Services.msc, I have also tried setting Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint to 'automatic' and also local system account and checked 'allow services to interact'. The permanent fix that worked for me was a registry entry. The speakers and hardware work with my laptop, and other devices. After navigating back to Sound my audio devices would reappear. To run the troubleshooter: Go to Search in the taskbar, type audio troubleshooter, and select Find and fix problems with playing sound from the results to launch the troubleshooter. I didn't try remoting in, but the first similar temporary fix I found was going to Settings > Sound > Ease of Access audio settings and toggling 'Turn on mono audio'. Run the audio troubleshooter The audio troubleshooter might be able to fix audio problems automatically. Having struggled with the same issue and attempted solutions, hopefully this fix will also work for you.
